Why your SPF isn’t just for summer??

Just because we are saying goodbye to summertime does not mean we take a break from our skin protection. I can't tell you how many times clients adamantly say to  me “I don't go in the sun that often, I don't need to wear sunblock!”  Everyday we are exposed to harmful sun rays, not only in summer while laying on the beach or by the pool. Sunlight exposure occurs more often than you might think. While we are driving or sitting near windows you get the effects of harmful sun rays. Even on cloudy overcast days. Despite the cool breezes and scent of pumpkin spice Do Not forego your sun protection.

SPF, or sun protection factor, isn't just for the summertime – you should be using it all year long!

The number one thing every skin care specialist, dermatologist or esthetician will tell you is Make sure to be applying proper SPF protection! Everyday!  Even if you only get a few minutes of sun exposure, those minutes add up.  Running out to the mailbox, walking the dog or jumping in and out of the car while shopping or running your kids to activities are all opportunities for sun damage to take a toll on our skin.   In addition to all those examples, you also need to consider the blue light damage you get from devices such as phones, tablets and computers. UV rays are  emitted from tanning beds. Please do not ever use tanning beds! That tan will not look pretty when you are suffering with ugly brown spots and sagging skin or worse. We all have relatives with pieces of skin cut from them trying to ward off cancer.   Even fluorescent light such as light bulbs will cause skin damage. LED is the the best way to go.

Your skin is your largest organ and needs to be protected from the sun's harmful rays

Regular daily use of SPF sunscreen can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by about 40 percent, and lower your melanoma risk by 50 percent. Speaking from an aesthetic point of view, SPF will prevent premature skin aging caused by the sun, including wrinkles, sagging and hyperpigmentation or .

Guys?! This applies to you too. Men are at risk just as much in feeling the effects of sun exposure. Take a couple extra minutes to protect your skin.
