Skin
Skin is the largest organ in the human body. It’s also one of the most important. Proper skin care can keep you looking young and healthy well into your later years—and it’s easier than you might think! Here are some tips on how to take care of your skin:
Wash your face every day
The first step to having healthy skin is to wash your face every day. Use warm water and a gentle cleanser, then rinse with cold water. Don’t scrub your face or use soap, towels or hot water.
Exfoliate once a week
Exfoliating is a great way to remove dead skin cells and make you feel refreshed. There are many different ways to exfoliate, but the best method is with a gentle face scrub that can be used either daily or weekly.
If you’re prone to acne, exfoliation helps clear it up by removing dead skin cells that clog pores. If you have oily skin, exfoliating will help reduce the amount of oil produced in your face. Exfoliation also keeps the skin looking youthful by preventing aging and smoothing out wrinkles (if applicable).
Moisturize after you clean your face (morning and night)
- Moisturize after you clean your face.
- Moisturize in the morning and at night.
- Use a good quality moisturizer that is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).
Apply an SPF sunscreen before going outside.
- Apply an SPF sunscreen before going outside.
- Use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen that offers at least SPF 30+ protection.
- Apply the sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you go outdoors and reapply every two hours, or after swimming or sweating a lot.
- Apply sunscreen to all exposed skin, including ears and feet. Also apply it to children, infants, the scalp — anywhere on the body that’s exposed to sunlight. Sunscreens can be used under makeup or in combination with makeup as long as they are labeled “broad spectrum” and have an SPF of 15 or higher.
Relax and de-stress with a facial or massage.
Facials and massages are simple ways to relax and de-stress. Not only do they feel great, but they also have numerous health benefits. You’ll want to make sure you get a facial or massage at least every two weeks or so—the more often you do it, the better!
A good facial should cost somewhere between $50-$100 an hour (you can get a 90-minute facial for about $125). A good massage will cost about $85 per hour. If you’re looking for an inexpensive option, ask your friends if they know of any reputable services in the area; typically these will be cheaper than going through a spa or salon.
If you’re thinking about getting a massage or facial as part of your self-care routine, consider signing up for one today! Good luck!
Take care of your skin, it’s the only one you have.
Skin is one of the most important organs in your body. It is your body’s largest organ, covering about 20 square feet and protecting you from germs and bacteria that could cause infection.
Your skin does more than protect you: it also helps to regulate body temperature, stores energy and fat, produces vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, and makes natural moisturizers for the skin (sebum).
Skin changes as we age because our bodies produce less collagen (a protein used by cells to grow healthy tissues), which reduces the ability of elastic fibers in skin tissue to bounce back after stretching or bending them beyond their normal range. As a result of this loss of elasticity, wrinkles form on the face as we age; these are caused by repeated creases in the skin due to facial expressions such as smiling or frowning over time.
Remember: if it’s worth doing at all, it’s worth doing well!
